Composite Doors or uPVC Doors – Which one is Right for You?

When you are selecting a new front door you can choose from several options. This range of choices gives you the advantage of being able to get the exact front door that you want. Two of them are uPVC doors or composite doors.

The only way you can make an informed decision is to understand what each product has to offer.

uPVC Doors

This option offers many different standard options, and again, instead of wood, it is made of high quality plastic.

This product is also very durable, like the composite. It may not be as durable, but it offers a good alternative, probably at a lower price as well. Besides that, PVCU can hold up to pretty harsh climate changes. You do not have to worry about refinishing this material every 5 years because uPVC front door is virtually maintenance free. Unlike conventional timber doors, uPVC door will not rot, flake, twist or warp.

Though it does not offer as much customization, you can still decide on some of the materials that will be used to make it, like the windows. Most commonly, the uPVC front door is available in white, although other colors are available for a higher cost.

Composite Doors

These doors are very durable. Composite or GRP front doors have an insulating core made from CFC free polyurethane, and a structure of plastic reinforced with fine fibre glass, which will help to prolong the life of the door.

Some manufacturers are so confident that they will provide a 10 year guarantee for the product. The amazing thing about this door is that it will not lose its color easily. It can withstand the harsh treatment of extreme weather changes.

Different cores are used to add to the strength of the door.

GRP front doors are strong, hard wearing which will look great and protect your home all year round. They will never rust, rot, flake or peel so require very little maintenance, just a wipe down with a damp cloth.

The range of options available with composite doors is extensive. Although mostly restricted by a range of styles and options, there are so many combinations to choose from, that it is unlikely not to find something you like.
